Harvest for Hunger ‘Fall Day at the Farm’ Is Back

Owen Sound Harvest for Hunger is once again hosting ‘Fall Day at the Farm’. The event will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. at the Parkin Farm just outside of Owen Sound.

This is the 10th year that Owen Sound Harvest for Hunger has been raising money for Canadian Foodgrains to feed the less fortunate in the world. To date, just over $282,000 has been raised by the project, and when matched by the Canadian government up to 4:1, grows to over $1 million, which makes a significant impact to those receiving food, or training on how to grow their own food.

This year’s event has a harvest theme, featuring a pick your own pumpkin patch, or get corn stalks for decorating. In addition, there will be children’s activities such as the bouncy cow, barrel train, giant sand pile, face painting, lucky ducky, archery tag, and matchbox car racing. The Inter Township Fire Department will also have a display on site and do vehicle extrication demonstrations. Check out the corn maze, or catch a ride on the horse and buggy. Lots to see and do for all ages. All of this at no charge, with donations accepted.

On site, there will also be a food booth, where you can purchase a piece of homemade pie with whipped cream or delectable butter tarts. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available, as well as drinks and ice cream.

In the afternoon, there will be live music by Sam & Robin for your listening pleasure. Sit back and relax while you enjoy some of that homemade pie. A great opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbours and enjoy a social time.

This event is supported by the Owen Sound Alliance Church and all proceeds raised at the event will be forwarded to Canadian Foodgrains. Two local farms also grow soybean crops with the proceeds of those crops sent to Foodgrains.

Gather the family and come out and enjoy the day.
