The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning people about packages, containing a potentially lethal substance, that may have been sent to individuals at risk of self-harm in communities across Ontario. The packages contain sodium nitrite, which was being sold online and distributed by mail. On April 20, 2023, at 11:59 P.M., members from the Grey Bruce OPP responded to a business on Sykes Street North in the Municipality of Meaford for a robbery in progress. On April 21, 2023, at 12:30 A.M., uniform members located the suspect, and they were taken into custody.
