The Meaford Harbour 5K Run/Walk Committee is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a 5K YOUR WAY event.
For the second year, the event will be virtual. Between September 4 and September 18, log 5K YOUR WAY and raise funds towards the purchase of essential patient beds, to improve and enhance medical equipment, and the most urgent needs at the Meaford Hospital. The goal of $75,000 will help to ensure quality health care close to home.
The Committee is proud of its 25-year history and raising in excess of $705,000.00. The success is due to incredible sponsors, participants, and donors. With their help, the Committee would like to make this 25th event the best yet.
Participants are invited to run, walk, swim, stroll, bike, climb stairs, kayak, or canoe… if you can track it, you can do it YOUR WAY! The rules are simple… download an Activity Log, or for competitive participants, use your favourite app (Asics Runkeeper, Garmin, Fitbit, or Apple Watch).
Random draw prizes will be given to one female and one male runner, one female and one male walker, and one 5K Your Way participant. There are prizes for fundraising as well as a social media photo contest that is new this year. Participants must return their Activity Log or use an app to be eligible to win.
The ‘Show us YOUR WAY Virtual 5K Photo Contest’ asks that registered participants post a photo of them working on their 5K YOUR WAY to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, including the hashtag #MHRW5KYOURWAY or #MHF and they can win prizes.
The Committee announced that Masse’s Your Independent Grocer has come on as Giveaway Sponsor and is awarding the first 150 participants registered a $15 gift card to be used at the store. “We thank Mike and Jody Masse for their community support and generosity,” said organizers.
While the KIDS 1K RACE is cancelled this year, there will be a special Scavenger Hunt around town where kids will locate items and receive a reward for their efforts. Stay tuned for details.
