Obituary: Tomlinson, Doris Elizabeth

Doris Elizabeth Tomlinson (nee Reid) passed away peacefully at the Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 96.

Doris was born in Owen Sound on January 20, 1929, and was the only child of John “Jack” Reid and Muriel (nee Barfoot) Reid.

Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy Tomlinson and cherished daughter Ann (nee Tomlinson) Graham.

Loving aunt to Carole Mitchell, her husband Danny and their children Alana and Paul.

Doris spent most of her married life in Meaford. They farmed in Meaford and then moved into town to a house on Burton Street. They relocated to Port Elgin for several years while Roy worked at the ‘Point’ and moved back to Meaford in 1983 to the house on Union Street. Doris continued to live in this house till her recent illness.

She and Roy loved travelling and occasionally Ann would join them on their adventures. They toured many places throughout the world.

Doris enjoyed many years volunteering at the Meaford Hospital and the Midas Mart. She was an excellent cook and baker, and anyone who has visited her knows she kept an immaculate house. Doris was a kind, generous and thoughtful person who often welcomed new people to the neighbourhood with a plate of homemade butter tarts. She thanked the people who helped her, by giving them apples in the fall and fruit trays at Christmas. She has also been known to give out a Tim Horton’s card or two.

Doris’s family would like to thank Marie, Bev and Clarence and the many friends and neighbours who have helped her over the years. Your assistance allowed her to stay in her home that she loved so dearly and it really means a lot to us.

All are welcome to a come and go gathering celebrating Doris’s life at Knox Presbyterian Church in Meaford on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 2 until 4 p.m. A private interment will be conducted at Lakeview Cemetery.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or the Grey Bruce Hospice ‘Chapman House’ would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
