William Robert Sims of Meaford, Ontario, passed away at the age of 76, on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Meaford General Hospital. His last moments were calmly spent in the presence of family and friends as his life came to a peaceful end.
His fine craftsmanship as a carpenter was one of the defining traits of his life and his work is and continues to be appreciated in the countless homes, offices, libraries, and community construction projects he was involved with in Ontario. His legacy is in the literal framework of the structures of the communities in which he laboured.
Robert derived great enjoyment from curling and golfing and had many fond memories at the Elmvale Curling Club; fond memories of his life in Elmvale. He returned to Meaford towards the end of his years to live out his days in the small town where it began.
He is survived by his sons Adam Sims, Alex Sims, Phillip Bennett, and will be deeply missed by his sister Mary Johnston. He requested to not have a memorial but that if he touched your life, you honour him with some good memories you may have shared together.
Half of Robert’s ashes will travel with his son across Canada to the mountains of Alberta. The other half will be forever part of the beauty he found here in Georgian Bay.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
