GBCS Students Celebrate Successful Terry Fox Run Fundraiser

On Friday, October 10, the elementary students of Georgian Bay Community School anxiously gathered on the tarmac outside the school for a special celebration. Students had been challenged to raise more than $2,000 for the Terry Fox Run to receive an extra recess and over $4,000 in order to dump ice water on an administrator.

To everyone’s delight, students were very successful in their fundraising efforts and the donations totalled a whopping $6,616.50.

The top two fundraisers were chosen to have the privilege of dumping ice water on school administrators. Mathur, Maxwell and Marshall McCague were the second highest fundraisers while Skyler Rogers was the top fundraiser for the second year in a row.

Principal Kelly Wilkins put on a good show for the ice water dump as she donned flippers, goggles and a life jacket before getting doused, while Vice Principal Colin Shawyer smiled and gave out soggy hugs after his double dose of cold water.

Many thanks for your donations and support of this worthy cause. Thanks also to those who organized this great event. We look forward to seeing what challenge awaits us next year!” said school organizers.
