Brightshores Health System Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month with Light It Up!

All seven Brightshores Health System sites were lit in purple and blue lights on Thursday, October 16, to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

We’re proud to celebrate the value of an inclusive work environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive,” said Rebecca Cummings, Vice-President, People, Corporate Services, COO. “Lighting up all seven Brightshores sites for NDEAM is an illustration of our commitment to inclusion at every level.”

Brightshores joined over 400 landmarks, organizations and buildings across Canada to shine purple and blue lights on their facilities and spark conversation around equitable employment.

Light It Up! For NDEAM is more than a symbolic gesture, it’s a clear demonstration of leadership and commitment,” said Amy Widdows, CEO of the Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN). “Each light represents an intention to advance disability inclusion in employment. Brightshores’ participation reinforces the message that inclusive practices in both employment and healthcare are essential to building stronger, more resilient communities.”

National Disability Employment Awareness Month supports the conversation around disability-inclusive hiring between job seekers, families, community organizations, businesses and local governments, across Canada. The Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN) began this initiative six years ago and it has grown into a national campaign.
