New Library Awarded 6K in Funding

The Municipality of Meaford and Meaford Public Library have been awarded a contribution of $366,064 for the new library project.

The renovation project is partially funded by the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund to help create a barrier-free, inclusive library building for Meaford residents. The funds will be used to help offset costs to ensure the new Meaford Public Library is accessible for all patrons and staff, including a universal washroom, accessible entrance, accessible library stacks and shelving, and accessible meeting space.

The Enabling Accessibility Fund (mid-sized projects) provides funding for capital projects with a focus on increasing accessibility for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces. It supports creating more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in community activities, programs and services, or to access employment opportunities.

The renovations to the Library’s new building are underway and expected to finish in June of 2020. The new building will offer a single-floor, fully accessible space to house the library’s collection, as well as offer meeting spaces and on-site programming for residents and visitors to the community.

We are thrilled to be able to offer a fully accessible experience at our new location.” said Acting CEO of the Meaford Public Library, Lynne Fascinato. “We look forward to being a true community hub that can accommodate everyone’s needs.”
