The SMILE Animal Society and Meaford Farmers’ Market are hosting the First Annual Feast of Fields banquet on September 6, 2014 at the Meaford Harbour Pavilion. Local chefs will donate their time and talent to offer a cornucopia of the finest, freshest produce at the fundraising banquet in support of SMILE and the Farmers’ Market.
The evening event will feature a quality, full-course vegetarian meal, including mouth-watering soups, main course, local breads and delicious desserts – all prepared with locally-grown produce. A number of Meaford-area musicians including Heather and Doug Brown will perform throughout the evening.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They can be purchased at the Meaford Farmer’s Market every Friday and at Sunrise Organics on Highway 26 or by calling 519-374-7405.
“We’re very excited to team up with the Farmers’ Market to bring together some of the area’s finest producers and chefs,” says Joyce Taylor, a spokesperson for SMILE. “Our area is famous for its apples, but there is so much more to showcase and be proud of.”
Proceeds from the event will go toward new equipment for the Meaford Farmers’ Market and the cost of sending one or more SMILE representatives to educational workshops. A priority objective of the SMILE Animal Society is to create a large-scale animal sanctuary for all domestic animals as well as an education centre in Southern Ontario. The sanctuary will be modelled on the Best Friend’s Sanctuary in Angel Canyon, Utah, which has more than 30 years of success.
To date, several Meaford chefs and food specialists are donating their time and talents to the dinner including: Paul Luckett of Baked and Pickled; Sheila Lee of Sheila’s Sugar, Sticky, Sweet Stuff and Chefs Brian Kool and Micheline Zammit of the Rockford Restaurant. Organizers would like to also thank numerous vendors from the Farmers’ Market that have volunteered to provide their produce and talents.
The SMILE Animal Society is a grassroots, not-for-profit volunteer group of seasoned professionals who share a common dedication to bettering the lives of animals. Their mission is to improve the lives of all living things and to foster healthy life relationships.
