OPP Advises Seasonal Property Owners To Check Their Property

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public to properly secure and check on your seasonal property frequently after a recent increase in the number of seasonal residence break and enters.

The OPP are urging all seasonal property owners to ensure that all valuable items and alcohol are removed from the residence. Small appliances and alcohol are often targeted by thieves as they are easy to steal and equally easy to sell for cash and rugs. Homes should be always locked.

The OPP encourages seasonal property owners to have someone check their property daily during the “off season” to ensure everything is secure. This tried and tested method is the best deterrent against crime. The OPP continues to appeal to persons living in and around trailer parks and cottages to report all suspicious activity to police when it happens.

If you have security cameras the OPP is encouraging everyone to register them with the CAMSafe program. Interested community members are only required to provide basic contact information and camera location but, can include more details if desired. The OPP does not have access to your security system.
