Meaford Public Library to Host Author Claire Cameron

The Meaford Public Library will host award-winning author Claire Cameron on Wednesday, June 4, at 1 p.m.

Cameron, known for her books The Bear and The Last Neanderthal, will be sharing her debut memoir How to Survive a Bear Attack, in which she confronts the rare genetic mutation that gave her cancer by investigating an equally rare and terrifying event—a predatory bear attack.

Cameron was advised by her doctor, “The ideal exposure to UV light is none.” This means she is no longer able to explore her beloved wilderness, including Algonquin Park, where she found solace after her father’s death who died from the same deadly skin cancer. She compares her cancer to a bear attack in Algonquin Park in the early ’90s that haunted her when she was young. How could terror rip through such a beautiful place?

How to Survive a Bear Attack weaves together nature writing with true crime investigation in an unflinching account of recovery.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Meaford Public Library. Cash only. Ticket price includes a hot beverage and sweets provided by The Kitchen.

Signed copies of How to Survive a Bear Attack will be available for purchase at the event, courtesy of Jessica’s Book Nook of Thornbury.
