The list of candidates for the October 26 municipal election is growing. The number of candidates registered to run for a regular council seat has grown to six with the addition last week of candidate Amanda Greenfield, daughter of long-time Councillor Harley Greenfield, who will not be seeking re-election this year after nearly three decades as a member of council, first in St. Vincent Township, and after the 2001 amalgamation, on the council of the Municipality of Meaford.
Meaford’s council consists of five regular councillors along with the deputy mayor and mayor for a total of seven members.
As of the morning of Tuesday, July 7, Meaford now has one candidate for mayor: current Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney; one for deputy mayor – current Councillor Rob Urhig; and six candidates registered to run for a regular council seat – incumbents Tony Bell, Brandon Forder, and Eric Ennis, along with new faces, candidates Adam Vaughan, former Meaford Treasurer Darcy Chapman, and Amanda Greenfield.
In addition to voting for council candidates, voters will also elect school board trustees on October 26. One candidate has filed their paperwork thus far to run for French Public School Board Trustee, incumbent Eric Lapointe, and one candidate has registered to run for English Public School Board Trustee, Angela Forder.
