Letter to the Editor
Dear Meaford,
On March 28, at the Chamber Community Awards Gala, the Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival was presented with the 2014 Tourism Award, sponsored by Third Line Homes. It was a real thrill to receive such a prestigious award, for the 2nd year in a row – a real compliment to the recognition of the “visitor impact” on our municipality by the Invasion.
When I accepted the honour, I did so recognizing the tremendous effort by our 300 community volunteers, especially the coordinating effort by our 10 person Executive – the group that keeps all the balls in the air for 11 months of the year. There is a no more dedicated bunch than our Executive team, and one that I’m incredibly proud to be associated with! I swear this group could run the world!!
I also recognized the critical support of our Official Sponsors, of which we have 15 in 2015!. Since all the activities are free to the participants, their commitment to the Scarecrow Invasion allows the event to exist and grow, as well as to have impact, not only in Meaford, but in Grey & Bruce Counties. I say it time & time again – we could NOT mount the event without our valued sponsors!
Also partnering with us this year is Community Foundation Grey/Bruce who is sponsoring a Scarecrow Art Project our Decorating Committee has cooked up, and that will be great fun this fall for both experienced and budding artists of all ages!
In the event you haven’t heard the latest Festivals & Events news bulletin, for the 2nd year in a row, The Scarecrow Invasion & Family Festival was named to the “Top 100 Festivals & Events in Ontario” by Festivals & Events Ontario. We couldn’t be prouder of that great honour!
Meaford, please take a bow! We are indeed lucky to live in this generous community!!
With Deep Appreciation & Warm Scarecrow Wishes,
Marilyn Morris,
Proud Head Scarecrow
