The 110th playing of the Canadian Open will take place this weekend at Hamilton Golf & Country Club. This is the 5th time the club has hosted the tournament, the first one was back in 1919, a hundred years ago.
This year’s event will feature a star studded field of players. They will include World No. 1 Brooks Koepka, last year’s defending champion Dustin Johnson, Rory McIIroy, Matt Kuchar, Justin Thomas, Henrik Stenson and Keegan Bradley. Three former Masters champions will also be competing in Hamilton this week. They include Bubba Watson, Danny Willet and Sergio Garcia.
There will be 20 Canadians competing this week, for our countries National Championship. They include Adam Hadwin, Corey Conners, David Hearn, Mackenzie Hughes, Michael Gligic and former Masters Champion Mike Weir.
In total 156 players will be competing for a total purse of U.S. $7.6 million dollars. This is one of the strongest fields ever to play in the Canadian Open. The PGA tour schedule was dramatically changed in 2019 and the earlier scheduling of the event has attracted some of the best players in the world.
This year I have an opportunity to go “inside the ropes” at the Canadian Open. I may not be playing, but I will have the opportunity to spend the day on Wednesday with some of the competitors as I will be involved in the Pro Am Event. I will be caddying for a good friend of mine, Michael Scanlan, who is playing as an amateur in the event. It will certainly be an experience for the two of us and many stories will long be told of our day in Hamilton.
General Admission tickets are available for early week access (Mon. – Wed.) at $25. Tickets for Friday and Saturday are $70 and for Sunday $80 for a day pass.
The tournament will be telecasted on three networks. The Golf Chanel and TSN will cover the tournament on Thursday and Friday from 3-6 P.M. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1-2:45 P.M. CBS will be carrying the coverage from 3 – 6 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday
