Beaver Valley Community School’s single largest fundraising event is back this year and the volunteers on the Organizing Committee are hoping to make it bigger and better than ever.
The Fair, which takes place this year on Saturday November 14, from 10 am, offers the opportunity to visit with Santa, get a kick start on your holiday shopping, enjoy tasty treats, bid at the silent auction, win a class basket raffle, enjoy children’s games, crafts and more.
Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards revamping and revitalizing BVCS’s library. BVCS will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland complete with a Country Kitchen and Bake Shop, marketplace vendors, Treasure Chest and silent auction. Santa will be visiting from the North Pole to hear children’s wishes at 4 pm.
Children can also decorate cookies, enjoy crafts, games and activities, and take part in holiday shopping at child-friendly prices. Adults can have fun with the silent auction, class gift basket raffle, and shop the many marketplace vendor’s tables.
Plan to arrive at the Sugar Plum Fair with an appetite, as the Grade Eight students are hosting the Sugar Plum Café. Pizza and chilli will be available for sale with proceeds going towards their annual school trip to Ottawa. For dessert, the Country Kitchen and Bake Shop will be the spot the whole family will want to visit. For kids, the popular candy kabobs are sure to capture their attention. As for the young at heart with a sweet tooth, there will be a large selection of homemade treats.
The Treasure Chest and Island of Misfit Toys provide the perfect place for kids to do their Christmas shopping. Featuring a number of items ranging from crafts and toys to jewellery and books, Abby Gauthier, Committee Chair, says, “They will all be sold at low prices so that children can shop for their friends and family.” Kids aren’t the only ones who can get their holiday shopping in. “There will be over a dozen diverse vendors participating in the Fair. Seasonal greenery will also be available to get your home ready for the holidays.”
New additions to this year’s Fair are the Hall of Games, the Mini Scholastic Book Fair and the Georgian Life Photo Booth. Featuring a variety of simple fun games kids of any age can play, for a nominal fee they can purchase a punch card and be entertained at the Hall of Games for the duration of the event. The Mini Scholastic Book Fair will offer great books for purchase for your children and promote the love of reading. Kids, and adults alike, can strike a pose with festive props at the Georgian Life Photo Booth and keep the photos as a memento.
Finally, the major fundraiser of the event is the silent auction. A number of generous donations from area businesses and families have been received, thus a large variety of auction items, services and gift certificates will be available. The auction, located in the BVCS library, will be open the entire day of the event, starting at 10am and closing that afternoon at 3:30pm.
