Editor,
To the vandals that stole the props from the display the Meaford & St. Vincent Agriculture Society installed on Station Hill:
You must be very proud of yourselves for destroying a welcoming sign to Meaford.
What a cowardly act – not only did you steal from a non-profit organization but you destroyed hours of hard work and considerable cost to the organization. The members of the Agricultural Society volunteered their time as did a number of friends to cut, paint, and install the display – with, I might add, immediate comments from the public about a great job – only to be devastated five days before the fair by uncaring, thoughtless individuals.
These same volunteers have organized another Fall Fair for Sat. August 31st but your act has them questioning if it’s really worth all the hard work. This is not the first act of vandalism – several times the actual Fairgrounds have been ruined by idiots driving cars and trucks through wet Fairgrounds.
We promote the youth in our community and many students earn their community service hours by volunteering at the Agricultural Society events – maybe you could put your efforts to helping with the fair – not vandalize it!
Despite your prank of stealing the display the fair was a tremendous success, probably the best in 20 years. Thanks to all who helped, came and enjoyed the day and all the exhibitors who showed their efforts for others to enjoy.
It’s now time to start planning for next year.
