Antique dealer Kara Bowles is counting down the days till dealers and customers come together in person after a two-year lapse, for the annual Thornbury Summer Antiques Show. The show runs Saturday, August 13, 10 – 5 p.m., and Sunday, August 14, 10 – 4 p.m., at the Beaver Valley Community Centre, 81 Victoria Street in Thornbury.
Bowles Hilltop Antiques owners Kara and Dan Bowles are the promoters of the event. They deal primarily in primitives, quilts, early Canadiana, and automobilia. They have taken part in the Thornbury show for upwards of 30 years and have this year taken over from promoter Ken Feakin.
“After two years, who knows what might be offered,” Kara said. “Antique dealers are just beginning to participate in shows again, and have been keeping pieces back for live events. We are pleased to make some great updates to an already solid event. The previous promoter continues to be a vendor at the show and has been instrumental in supporting the shift towards social media and a digital presence. A new website gives a glimpse into the offerings and will be updated with sneak peeks as the show gets closer.”
Kara and Dan have brought together 25 dealers, including new dealers such as Parry’s Vintage, DC Vintage and Salvage, Jamie McDougall Antiques, DQ Antiquarian, Authenticity Antiques, and Stefan R. McKey Antiques, who will participating alongside longstanding dealers from across Ontario.
Kara refers to the show as a curated show. “We are trying to ensure that the new dealers have a look, a feel, a distinct approach to doing a show and ensure that they are dealers with a focus on current trends,” she said. “Dan and I, for example, focus on early Canadiana and primitives. We have for 30 years and there will still be the core group of dealers like us, but there will also be ten new dealers who have different niches, such as textiles, indigenous pieces, and high end enamel signs.”
Admission for the weekend is $5.
