In recent weeks, youth sailors from Sail Georgian Bay (SGB) in Meaford competed in two regattas, and achieved podium results in both competitions.
Over the weekend of July 18-19, young sailors Timothy Shyrnin, Ian Belov, Andrew Shyrnin, and Owen Maish competed in the Four Sisters Open at Port Credit Yacht Club in Mississauga in the White Sail fleet. Timothy and Ian achieved second place, and Owen and Andrew achieved third place.
Hundreds of young sailors compete at the 25th Four Sisters Open across all classes and fleets, attending from across Ontario and the United States. The weekend was eventful, with one day of competition cancelled due to a tornado warning, and air quality warnings throughout. SGB’s sailors persevered regardless, and performed excellently.
From July 25-26, young sailors Johanna Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Andrew Shyrnin, Timothy Shyrnin, Jacob Snow, Nicholas Legeny, Xavier Desormeaux, and Sam Squire competed in the Eager Beaver RS Zest Regatta at the Breakwinders sailing school in Wiarton. Isaac and Andrew achieved second place, and Sam and Timothy achieved third place. All the SGB sailors performed wonderfully.
“The Eager Beaver Regatta is hosted by a new sailing school in Grey-Bruce, and is an event SGB is excited to be a regular participant at in the coming years. SGB is incredibly proud of these young sailors, all of whom are local to the Grey-Bruce area, and learned to sail through the CANSail program at SGB,” said Sail Georgian Bay. “SGB is excited to continue the operation of its CANSail learn-to-sail program over the remainder of the 2026 summer season, especially through the new Wet Feet program for ages 7-9, and Adult Lessons for ages 18+.”
On August 15, the school is hosting the Ironside Regatta in Meaford. Sail Georgian Bay will have their Meaford youth sailors competing with sailors from Wiarton and Collingwood. The Ironside Regatta is held in memory of Rhoda Ironside who started the Sailing School 31 years ago. The public are invited to the harbour area to watch the races that will be starting around 10 a.m.
