Step back in time and discover what life was like more than 1,000 years ago at Dine Like a Viking, a unique evening of food, history, and storytelling presented by the Meaford Museum.
Taking place on Tuesday, September 15, at 6 p.m., at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre, guests will enjoy a four-course dinner inspired by Old Norse cuisine, expertly prepared by local chef Christina Sheardown, followed by an engaging presentation from renowned Viking historian and naturalist Robert Burcher.
More than just a meal, Dine Like a Viking offers an immersive experience that brings the world of the Norse people to life through authentic flavours and fascinating stories. During his presentation, Burcher will explore the myths, traditions, and daily lives of the Vikings, separating popular misconceptions from historical fact.
“The Vikings continue to capture our imagination centuries later,” said Jody Seeley, Curator at the Meaford Museum. “This event offers a rare opportunity to experience Viking history in a completely different way – through food, culture and storytelling.”
The evening’s menu offers a taste of what may have been enjoyed during the Viking Age:
First Course: Wild Mushroom and Barley Soup
Second Course: Fresh Herbed Salad with Hazelnut Vinaigrette
Third Course: Juniper Beef Stew with Root Vegetables
Vegetarian Option: Juniper Lentil and Root Vegetable Stew
Fourth Course: Aged Cheddar and Spiced Apple Tart
Guests will also enjoy a complimentary glass of mead, a traditional honey-based beverage often associated with Norse culture. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
