Reader Questions Plan For a Group Of Meaford Council Delegates to Visit The PSP In Ludington, Michigan

Letter to the Editor,

At the November 13, 2025 Pumped Storage Advisory Committee meeting our newly appointed CAO Shawn Everitt announced that he and a group of Meaford councillors will be touring the PSP project in Ludington, Michigan sometime this month. Ironically, 7 years minus 2 days after this project was introduce(d) to the former Mayor in 2018 (Freedom of Information MFIPPA – A17-2019-03).

Why visit Ludington, a pumped storage facility built between 1969 – 1973? An excursion to view this antiquated technology is a diversion from the scientific evidence about toxic metals/forever chemicals that exist in the area of the proposed project.

Meaford council has always overlooked the safety issues of this project with NO community engagement, often forgetting that taxpayers have a say.

  1. Is Ludington built on an active military base?
  2. Was the soil contaminated when they built this project?
  3. The size of the proposed reservoir is equal to 185 CFL football fields. Is there a community living directly below the Ludington reservoir within .69 km or .4287 miles?

This excursion is a waste of taxpayer dollars. On December 12, 2024, Minister Stephen Lecce signed a directive advancing 285 million tax dollars to TCEnergy for developmental costs. The Independent Electrical System of Ontario has turned this project down twice because there are no benefits to the Ontario ratepayers.

WE are entitled to answers!
