The Municipality of Meaford has launched ‘Proudly Meaford’, a series of stories that introduce the growers, makers, builders, and other community members who shape life in our municipality.
The launch took place on Canada’s Agriculture Day, February 10, a national celebration of the farmers and food producers who support communities across the country. Proudly Grown in Meaford, the first chapter in the series, highlights Meaford’s rich agricultural history, the orchards at the heart of our landscape, and the iconic apple that has become a symbol of our community.
“Meaford’s growers have been at the heart of our community for generations. Many of us grew up alongside the families who are still tending the orchards today, and it is inspiring to see childhood friends become the people who continue to support and strengthen our municipality,” said Councillor Rob Uhrig. “Their dedication, history, and deep roots in Meaford are what make this community so special.”
The launch features video stories from two local farming families. The Vail family has been growing in Meaford since 1825, and the Lambe family grew a small fruit stand into the well-known local business Grandma Lambe’s. Their stories show the tradition, innovation, and community pride that continues to shape agriculture in Meaford.
