Private Foundation Revitalizes Adult Day Away Programs Across Grey & Bruce

Home & Community Support Services Grey–Bruce has been presented with a $93,456 grant from the James Goreski Private Foundation. The grant will assist with the revitalization of their Adult Day Away programs across Grey and Bruce counties.

The Revitalizing Adult Day Away project will equip the six program locations across Grey and Bruce counties with the updated equipment and furnishings needed to provide a comfortable and engaging space for participants as the program rebounds from the effects of the pandemic. Grant funds will be used to purchase reclining electric lift chairs, air quality monitors and HEPA air filtration equipment, commercial dishwashers, and activity equipment like iPads, mobile smart televisions, and mobile whiteboards.

We are so grateful for this generous support from the James Goreski Private Foundation. Since we only receive partial funding from the government for operational costs we rely heavily on support from grants and community donations for things like furnishings and equipment. Our reclining chairs needing to be replaced are in very rough condition due to their age and not being made of materials intended for strict pandemic cleaning protocols. The introduction of the HEPA air purifiers will improve the air quality in each location and thus improve the health and well-being of clients and staff in these spaces. These improvements to our six spaces will impact so many area seniors and adults living with disabilities all across Grey and Bruce counties. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful locally focused foundation in our area,” said Executive Director Stephen Musehl.

The Adult Day Away Program provides socialization and recreation in a caring and medically monitored environment. Clients who come to the program take part in a wide variety of activities like games, music, exercise, crafts, and an opportunity to visit one another. Transportation and locally prepared nutritious meals are also available for all participants. The program is highly beneficial for the clients but equally as important it provides much needed respite for their caregivers.

Adult Day Away programming takes place in Owen Sound, Meaford, Markdale, Port Elgin, Hanover, and Wiarton. It is one of many services offered by Home & Community Support Services Grey – Bruce, whose mission is to provide community-based services that support independence and quality of daily life for seniors, adults, and their families.
