You’re Invited to a Community Tree Planting Event in Beautiful Joe Park

In honour of National Forestry week, Meaford residents are invited to join in for a community tree planting event in Beautiful Joe Park on September 23, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. This event is free to attend and all ages welcome.

The event includes an educational program by Professor Elwood Prickelthorn starting at 10:00 a.m. Professor Pricklethorn is an educator, eco-advocate, and someone who cares about trees and wants others to understand them and care about them, too. The program includes teaching kids of all ages about what trees give us, benefits of trees, planting the right tree in the right place, photosynthesis and more.

Local arborists and foresters will be on site to showcase their craft, tools and answer your questions. The Meaford chapter of Tree Trust will also be in attendance for a family friendly unveiling of their Meaford ‘Tree of the Year’.

The Municipality is partnering with the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority to bring 100 native potted trees and shrubs and need your help with the planting. Together we will be planting in an identified area of the park to ensure the forest remains for years and years to come.

Come ready to plant, including wearing closed toed shoes and bring gloves if you like. Shovels will be provided or bring your own. This event is rain or shine. If its raining, we may get wet, but the trees will get a nice drink.
