Police Investigating Reports of Gun Shots in Victoria Village Area

On August 27, 2024, at approximately 12:35 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons related call. Initial reports indicate that four to five gun shots were heard near the Victoria Village area on Victoria Street. 

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received another weapon related call. Initial reports indicate that several gun shots were heard from a bush area near the Victoria Village area. Out of an abundance of caution Georgian Bay Community School was place on a hold and secure and the community was asked to remain in their residences.

On both calls, officers of the Grey Bruce OPP set up containment of the area and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Canine Unit assisted with the investigation. No persons or evidence was located during the search and containment. 

The Grey Bruce Crime Unit are continuing to investigate. No injuries were reported.

The Grey Bruce OPP will continue to make extra patrols of the area throughout the day and night. Officers and auxiliary members of the Grey Bruce OPP will be out on September 7 and 8, 2024 canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and video surveillance.

The Grey Bruce OPP is asking anyone in the area to check their video surveillance systems, dash-cams or door-cams for footage on August 27, 2024, around 12:35 p.m. and September 4, 2024, around 1:00pm. Any person with information regarding this incident should contact the Grey Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP (*677) from a cell phone.
