On Friday, November 28, MPP Paul Vickers met with the Board and members of Intersections Wood Collaborative (IWC) to hear more about the $17,300 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The six-month OTF grant, which was awarded earlier this year, was used to buy new woodworking equipment and improve the ability to serve citizens of Grey and Bruce.
“This investment by OTF to purchase a new planer, jointer, and hand tools at Intersections Wood Collaborative is great news for the people of Bruce and Grey Counties” said Vickers. “This will improve Intersections outreach to adults, children, youth, seniors, and individuals with specials needs.”
In addition to a new 20-inch planer and 12-inch jointer, six sets of hand tools to be used by workshop participants were purchased. Intersections Wood Collaborative is a woodworking and wood turning membership organization that teaches an extensive range of woodworking and wood turning classes from the very beginner to the advanced woodworker. IWC also serves the community through a variety of outreach services to individuals who usually would not access the benefits of woodworking.
“The impact of this Ontario government grant cannot be overstated,” said Mike Simpson, Chair of the Intersections Wood Collaborative Board of Directors. “This grant has allowed us to upgrade to a larger more efficient planer and jointer which means we can work with larger pieces of wood and do more complex woodworking projects. The addition of six sets of dedicated hand tools means we can improve our teaching of both beginner and advanced woodworking.”
Intersections Wood Collaborative is a member-based not-for-profit dedicated to teaching fine woodworking and wood turning skills, providing space and equipment for members to work on their own projects. It also reaches out to give back to individuals with special challenges as well as the broader community. Visit www.intersectionswoodccollaborative.org to learn more.
