Optimist Club of Sydenham & District Engage Students to Create Diversity Forest for Christmas On The Bay

Members of the Optimist Club of Sydenham and District (OCSD), in collaboration with Grey Bruce Settlement and Languages worker Shelley Bell-White, recently came together to hold a cultural craft morning at Georgian Bay Community School in Meaford.

One of the Grade 3/4 classes was introduced to OCSD Ukrainian member Tetiana Suddia from the Owen Sound area, and learned of her homeland and some of the cultural practices. Students were inspired and created unique globe ornaments for the tree.

In the other Grade 3 class the students learned about the Hindu Diwali Celebration and crafted colourful tree ornaments of representational Rangoli Art. One of the students, Charlotte Turner, stated, “This is the best day at school doing this activity!”

All ornaments from the classroom will be on display and can be admired in the Diversity Forest at Christmas On The Bay, November 28 through December 1 in Meaford’s Market Square.
