Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood, at age 79.
Ted was the devoted husband of the late Shirley (nee Christie) for over 42 years. Proud father of Kari MacDonald and her husband Don, Michael McAteer and his wife Nicole. Cherished Papa of Jesse MacDonald, Tanner MacDonald, and Alex McAteer. He will also be missed by his brothers Gord (Pat) McAteer and Brian “Hank” McAteer and sisters Joan (Jim) Lanktree, Patty Federer, and the late Bonnie McAteer. He will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, fishing and hunting buddies.
Ted was the oldest child of the late Henry and Hazel (nee Adair) McAteer. He was born in Toronto and worked for over 30 years with Bell Canada. He was a founder of Blue Ridge Sportsman Club, one of the original group of friends that started the Beaver River Rat Race and the Beaver Valley Hunt Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and had an unmatched knowledge and love of the outdoors. Ted’s story-telling was unforgettable; he will be remembered for his big sense of humour and his love of pulling off a great prank. Family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date, for all those who knew and loved him to come together and share their stories of Ted.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to the Chatterson Funeral Home, 404 Hurontario Street, Collingwood. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House would be appreciated. To sign Ted’s Book of Memories, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com
