December 23, 1942 – September 1, 2025
Passed away peacefully at The Village of Riverside Glen in Guelph on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the age of 82, with her daughter by her side.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Nancy was a spirited and adventurous young woman. At the age of 18, she moved to Miami to work as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. It was during this time that she met David, and they began a long-distance romance, flying back and forth between Montreal and Miami to see each other. Their love story culminated in an engagement and then marriage on July 8, 1967, in Montreal, during the summer of the Montreal Expo.
The couple soon relocated to Ontario to raise their family. Once her children were in school, Nancy returned to her roots in the airline business, beginning a successful career with Air Canada as a Customer Sales and Service Agent. Prior to her retirement, Nancy was also voted in as a vice-chair with CAW (now Unifor), and was very proud to serve in that role and support her colleagues. She was dedicated to her work and retired in 2001.
In retirement, Nancy and David moved to Rocklyn, near Meaford, where they embraced the tranquil life. She was an avid boater and fisherman on Georgian Bay, a keen skier, and a regular traveller, spending winters in Florida. Nancy was always busy, whether she was volunteering for the local fall fair, honing her skills in ceramics, needlework, and cross-stitching, or pursuing her great passion for making teddy bears. She was especially proud of the memorial bears she crafted from the clothing of departed loved ones.
Music was a very special part of Nancy’s life, as her family was very musically inclined. This passion for music brought her great comfort, and it was a huge part of her final years, even through her dementia. Nancy’s love of music was further expressed as a proud member of the Owen Sound and District Pipe Band.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, David; her children, Derek (Stephanie) and Marjory (James); and her cherished grandchildren, Madeleine, Ryan, and Elia. She will also be dearly missed by her nephew, nieces, and many friends, neighbours, and colleagues.
She was predeceased by her parents, Helen (1975) and James (1975); her brother, Ross (2010); her beloved sister, Bonnie (2025), with whom she shared a special lifelong bond; her nephew, Jamie (2015); and her sister-in-law, Beau (1982).
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the residents and staff at The Village of Riverside Glen, specifically in the Nichol and Mapleton neighbourhoods, for their constant care and compassion. A special thank you is also extended to Dr. Baig for her guidance and support.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. Interment will follow at Belsyde Cemetery in Fergus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Village of Riverside Glen’s Recreation Program, or to St. Joseph’s Fergus Day Out Program, and are greatly appreciated by the family.
