May 27, 1929 – August 26, 2025
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr. Frank Joseph Clumpus passed away peacefully, aged 96, at the Meaford Long Term Care Home, ending a long, courageous struggle with vascular dementia. Singing along to his favourite light jazz and big band music until recently brought out his infectious smile and kept his toes tapping. His sense of humour, his intelligent wit, his genuine interest in people, in politics, sports, and his community, endeared him to his family and many friends. His passions included skiing, sailing, and tennis, biking and live theatre – he was seen in town on his bicycle at 90.
Frank’s career as a dental surgeon spanned 50 years in Sudbury, Ontario, after graduating from the University of Toronto followed by further training in California to achieve the accreditation of dental surgeon. He served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Laurentian University in Sudbury, and after retirement, he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Meaford Hospital and the Georgian Theatre Festival. He was a key organizer and champion of his wife Barb’s campaigns for municipal council.
Born in Toronto on May 27, 1929, to parents Wilfred Clumpus from Latvia and Elizabeth (Reynolds) from Wrexham, Wales. He was the last of a family of nine children and was predeceased by his siblings: Sydney (Juanita), Hilda Spicer (Ted), Harold (Kitty), Mary Levy (Ike), Jack (Ellen), Betty Jenner (Fred), Audrey Rayment (Jack), and Bill (Joanne).
Frank will be missed by his wife Barb Cooper-Clumpus, who is forever grateful for the love and travel adventures they shared over 30 years.
He was a wonderful father with Norma Baird to Joe “Bobbi”, Karen, and Jenny (late Larry Gross), instilling a love of tennis, skiing, sailing and the outdoors in his children. Many happy times were spent at the family camp on Fairbank Lake and the memories will live on. He was a loving mentor and role model to Barb’s children: Jodi Hayami (Geoff), Jani Edwards (Dave), and Robin Gendron (Kelly), nine grandchildren: Ande, Jeff and Madde Clumpus, Alex and Matt Hayami, Maia and Hannah Edwards, and Djaye and Anthony Morris-Gendron; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember his stories, his bad jokes, and his quirky sense of humour.
A caring, funny – and oh so handsome – renaissance man, he will be sadly missed and remembered always. His family is very grateful to the staff at the ‘peopleCare Communities’ Meaford Long Term Care and Home & Community Support Day Away programs for their loving care.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Frank’s life well lived will be held in the Galleries at Meaford Hall on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2 until 5 p.m., with tributes shared at 3 o’clock.
