Council to Vote on Less Restrictive Debt Management Policy

council chamber333At their next meeting on May 25, Meaford councillors are scheduled to vote on a proposed revision to the municipal long-term debt policy.

If approved, the new policy, which was presented to council at their May 11 committee of the whole meeting, would shift from a restrictive policy implemented in the wake of Meaford's five year plan for financial recovery after having found itself with some $3 million in accumulated deficits, to a less restrictive set of rules that would give the municipality more flexibility when considering funding options for municipal projects.

Meaford Man Charged With Theft From Vehicles

On Monday, May 18, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was alerted to an unknown male entering vehicles on Ridge Road in the Municipality of Meaford.

Police attended the area and arrested the suspect in question after they had observed him entering two vehicles parked on Meadow Lane in Meaford.  The suspect was found to be in possession of stolen property, including items which had been stolen earlier this month from vehicles in Bognor and Feversham.

Federal Government Announces Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program

parliamentRecently, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced $150 million for the new Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, which will provide significant support for existing community and cultural infrastructure across the country as a way to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation.

This program, announced as part of the 2015 budget of the Federal Government, will provide support for the renovation, expansion, and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure that provides community and cultural benefits for the public.

No Major Issues on Roadways Over Long-Weekend For Grey OPP

Although it was a busy long weekend for Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with 138 calls for service between 12 noon on Friday, May 15, and midnight Tuesday, May 19, there were no major issues on the roadways in their jurisdiction.
