Earth Week Organizing Committee Updates Council

Organizing committee member Jenean Lush told council that the second year for the event exceeded the exceptional participation of last year's inaugural Earth Week in Meaford.

Deputy Mayor Will Have to Wait For Staff Review

mfd ops ctrMeaford's Deputy Mayor, Harley Greenfield, has asked council to consider a review of the municipality's full time staff “in an attempt to maximize synergies and efficiencies”, however his fellow councillors have deferred his motion until later this summer.

Greenfield caused a stir earlier this month after he made a notice of motion at the May 11 council meeting indicating that he would be bringing forward a motion that would “have to do with the huge future cost of infrastructure, it will deal with no additional tax increases to cover the infrastructure expenses, it will have very much to do with a workforce adjustment which will free tax dollars for infrastructure needs”.

TMI Wins First OCNA Award

awardphoto225Each year the Ontario Community Newspaper Association (OCNA) hosts an awards gala for its more than 300 member newspapers, and this year The Meaford Independent earned its very first OCNA Better Newspapers Premier award.

The Independent received a first place award in the Community Service category for our Municipal Election Guide issue (September 26, 2014). The OCNA Better Newspapers awards were presented on Friday May 22, at the Sheraton Centre hotel in Toronto.

Meaford Woman Charged With Racing

A 28 year old Meaford woman has been charged with racing a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act after she was stopped by Grey County OPP for driving 151 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometre per hour zone.  The infraction took place on Sunday May 24 at 4:04 pm, on Grey Bruce Line north of Sideroad 5 in the Township of Chatsworth.
