Preparations are underway for Moreston by Candlelight, a popular annual holiday event held at Grey Roots Museum & Archives. This year, the event takes place over two evenings, Saturday, December 2 and Saturday, December 9 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
This family friendly event features a variety of activities, all taking place in Moreston Heritage Village. A horse-drawn wagon offers scenic rides through the village, while local choir groups set the holiday tone with hourly carolling sessions. Costumed volunteers bring the buildings in Moreston to life, offering a variety of holiday treats including cookies and hot apple cider. The 1920s Schoolhouse serves as a concert hall, with performances by Kailey Jane Hawkins and the St. Andrew’s Church Choir on December 2 and Max Clarke and Jimmy’s Old Time Radio Show on December 9. Moreston by Candlelight favourites Big Squeeze will close out the schoolhouse concerts each night.
All exhibits in the museum are open throughout the event, including the popular Game Changers featuring many playable video games, the Zooz’s Place Children’s Gallery, and Sacred Splendour, a brand-new exhibition of lovingly restored stained glass windows.
The REACH Centre Grey/Bruce will also be on site both nights, offering soup, hot chocolate, and treats to enjoy, as well as goodies to take home.
Tickets to Moreston by Candlelight are available now at greyroots.com. Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly recommended, as this event tends to draw a large crowd. Grey Roots members and children under 5 enjoy free admission but are still encouraged to register in advance.
