Meaford’s Special Need

Editor,

Lots going on these days. Globally of course, and across Canada too with issues like job security, childcare, healthcare, affordable housing, gun ownership, government transparency, decentralizing energy, protecting a vulnerable environment.

But right now here in Meaford, the special need that keeps me awake at night is Trans Canada Energy’s (TCE) open looped, Pumped Storage Project. It will change the Meaford you know, the one you grew up in, and the one you chose to move to, into an unrecognizable town.

Thousands of people are against the project (as proven by signatures, letters, votes). And to show my kinship, I’ve put a sign up at my house: STOP TCE’s Pumped Storage Project Save Georgian Bay.

These thousands are part of a rising tide of people who believe in their agency, meaning they believe their activism will shape society. If you stay silent, what right do you have to complain about your government?

Do you have a cause you’d put a sign up for? What is it, and what values does it reflect?
