Meaford Hall Presents Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom

For more than a century, Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre has been a cornerstone of arts and culture in the southern Georgian Bay region. Renowned for its historic charm and exceptional acoustics, Meaford Hall continues to be one of the area’s busiest cultural hubs, presenting outstanding live entertainment year-round.

“The Hall is proud to showcase a stellar lineup of 100% Canadian talent, celebrating the voices, stories, and music that define our country,” said Hall staff.

On Thursday, February 5, Meaford Hall welcomes the Canada Believe in Your Country Tour featuring Whiskey Jack: Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom, with special guest Seán Cullen.

Hosted by Duncan Fremlin, the evening stars Stompin’ Tom’s longtime band Whiskey Jack, Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Douglas John Cameron, and Tom’s longtime fiddler from Prince Edward Island, Billy MacInnis. Acclaimed comedian, actor, and writer Seán Cullen joins the tour as a very special guest.

Now entering its 13th year, Stories & Songs of Stompin’ Tom celebrates Canadian resilience, humour, and pride through songs of defiance and hope, some penned by Stompin’ Tom Connors himself and others by beloved Canadian songwriters.

The concept for the show was born during Whiskey Jack’s COVID-interrupted 2020 tour, Stompin’ Tom’s Canada Meets Seán Cullen’s Comedy. Following one performance, a fan summed it up perfectly: “That was the most Canadian show I’ve ever seen. I wish it didn’t have to end.”

Whiskey Jack’s 25-year professional and personal relationship with Stompin’ Tom forms the heart and soul of the production. Audiences can expect iconic favourites such as Bud the Spud, Sudbury Saturday Night, and The Hockey Song, along with community-inspired tunes and special songs written by Tom for this show, including Believe in Your Country, It’s Canada Day, Up Canada Way, C A N A D A, Unity, and more.

As musical director, Duncan Fremlin also serves as a gifted storyteller, sharing personal and often hilarious anecdotes, many drawn from his bestselling book My Good Times with Stompin’ Tom.

Seán Cullen is a triple Gemini and Canadian Comedy Award winner, widely known for his work as a comedian, actor, author, and musician. His television credits include multiple appearances on The Tonight Show (NBC) and The Late Late Show (CBS), as well as specials such as Comedy Central Presents and Comedy Now. He was also a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Cullen’s acting credits include Slings & Arrows, Saint Ralph, Phil the Alien, and starring as Max Bialystock in the Canadian production of The Producers. He created and starred in The Sean Cullen Show on CBC and is a regular guest on Match Game. He is also an award-winning author of the Hamish X series and The Chronicles of the Misplaced Prince novels.

Since first performing together following Stompin’ Tom’s passing in 2013, Seán Cullen and Whiskey Jack have delighted audiences with a unique blend of music and comedy. One reviewer described the experience as “music, mirth, mayhem, and magic.” Their very first show famously included the spontaneous creation of the now-legendary song I Love Poutine, bringing the house down in front of a sold-out crowd.
