In 2003, the Municipality of Meaford secured a SuperBuild grant to restore and renovate the historic Meaford Hall, along with a Trillium Grant to install an elevator, ensuring accessibility for all patrons. Three years and thousands of volunteer hours later, the community celebrated the completion of the $6 million restoration project, and the Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre officially reopened in the spring of 2006.
The remarkable transformation was made possible through the dedication and leadership of the Meaford Hall Board of Management, which oversaw the renovation from 2003 to 2006, and the ongoing efforts of the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation, established in 2006 to support capital improvements, facility upgrades, and arts programming opportunities for children and youth of all backgrounds.
In 2017, the final phase of the building’s revitalization was completed with the renovation of the theatre’s balcony seating. This project was funded through the efforts of the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation, support from Heritage Canada, and the taxpayers of Meaford, marking the completion of the Hall’s extensive transformation.
“Today, more than a century after its original opening, Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre continues to stand proudly in the heart of downtown Meaford, serving as a vibrant gathering place for residents and visitors alike—a lasting symbol of community, culture, and progress,” said Hall management.
This year, Meaford Hall celebrates 20 years of live music, connection, and community since reopening its doors following the major restoration.
