Meaford Fortunate to Have a Hospital

Editor,

My name is Verna Juniper and I’ve had an experience I’d like to share with you.

On March 3, I was cooking supper when suddenly I blacked out and fell on the kitchen floor. When I came to, I couldn’t move, my right backside, it was super sore.

My husband Allan called the ambulance and they took me to our Meaford hospital.

I was checked out, X-rays, blood pressure, heart monitor, etc. and found I had broken my pelvis in two places. I was admitted to the hospital and was told I would be there till I could walk with a walker, but I was bedridden till then.

This turned out to be good for me. They wondered why I had blacked out. They were monitoring my heart and found out my heart rate was dangerously low.

This entailed a trip over to Owen Sound hospital and back to get a pacemaker put in. My heart has come up and I’m doing well. (I was tired all the time and often dizzy, now I know why.)

Have you ever stayed in our hospital for a significant time? I was there for two weeks. It really opens your eyes. The nurses, I can’t say enough about them. They were so professional, friendly and caring. I can’t remember all your names but you were wonderful. This also applies to the P.S.W.s, cleaners (who came in each morning with a cheery hello), kitchen servers, really good meals I didn’t have to cook. At my age 83 it was a treat.

Of course we appreciate all the wonderful doctors who work in our hospital. A few years ago I had to rush my husband. The doctor was right on top of it. They rushed him by ambulance to London for surgery. They saved his life.

Meaford is so fortunate to have a hospital. We all need to support it in every way we can.

By the way, the gift shop is a great place to shop and all proceeds go to the hospital.

A big thank you to all the workers and volunteers.
