Expect Extended Wait Times at Local Emergency Departments

Due to increased patient volumes, there may be extended wait times in Emergency Departments (ED) at Brightshores hospitals.

We understand that waiting for care can be frustrating and we want to assure our patients that we are working hard to provide timely and effective treatment to all those who need it,” said Brightshores Health System in a media release. “If you are experiencing a medical emergency, do not delay seeking care. Call 911 or go to your nearest ED.”

For less urgent medical concerns, Brightshores encourages individuals to consider alternative options such as family doctors, walk-in clinics, or telehealth services to get the care they need and help alleviate pressure on the ED. Call Health811 (call 811 or toll free: 1-866-797-0007) for non-urgent health information day or night.

We know that visiting the ED can be a stressful time; we appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to treat our patients. Please continue to seek medical treatment as needed, there may be a longer wait but your health and safety remains a priority for our teams,” said Dr. Cornelius Van Zyl, Chief of Staff at Brightshores.

All six of Brightshore’s hospitals operate 24/7 EDs (Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Owen Sound, Southampton, Wiarton). Patients with the most urgent needs will be seen first.
