On February 21, the Meaford Curling Club’s Funspiel took place. The goal was to host an event suited for new curlers to the sport and to the Meaford Curling Club. The event had 96 participants for the event along with friends and family that stopped by to check out the action.
The day consisted of two games of curling, multiple games of euchre, and the infamous Brisket Toss.
Brisket Toss is a game where packaged meat is placed on the ice and people get the chance to throw their rock to the various prizes. Closest to the prize at the end took home their prize.
With the help of sponsors and everyone who participated $5,000 was raised.
“We recently met with the Brightshores Meaford Hospital Foundation members to make a donation of $2,500,” said organizers. “We also raised enough money through the Funspiel to donate $2,500 to the Meaford Kids Curling Program. We were extremely grateful to have several local sponsors for the event. Bakwoods Fireplace & Heating was our main sponsor. Bakwoods provided lunch and some great raffle prizes. Our other sponsors were Fairfield Farms, CMR Insurance, Georgian Bay Electric, NC Custom Millwork, Georgian Bay Applekings, Davison Bread Co., Robert’s Equipment, Cliff Richardson Boats, and Collwest Grain. These sponsors also donated some great raffle prizes which helped raise money for our community.”
