The Municipality of Meaford is seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacant seat on Council, following the declaration of a vacancy at the September 8, 2025, Council meeting.
At the meeting on September 22, 2025, Council selected the ‘Call for Nominees’ method to fill this vacancy. Applications are now open to eligible electors who are interested in serving their community as a member of Council.
Eligibility
To be eligible to serve on the Municipality of Meaford’s Council, an applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Be a resident of the Municipality of Meaford, or an owner or tenant of land in Meaford (or the spouse of such owner or tenant); and
- Not be otherwise disqualified by law from holding municipal office.
Application Process
Application packages, including the required forms and detailed instructions, are available on the Municipality’s website at meaford.ca/CouncilSeat. Completed applications must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office no later than Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2 p.m.
All eligible applications will be reviewed and verified by staff. Candidate information will be posted publicly on the municipal website for residents to review.
Appointment Process
A Special Meeting of Council will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at which time candidates will have the opportunity to address Council. Following these presentations, Council will follow the voting procedure to appoint one individual to fill the vacant seat.
The Special Meeting will be live-streamed for public viewing, and details will be posted in advance at meaford.ca/youtube.
