In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, the Meaford Public Library is hosting two authors who have written about the World Wars on Thursday, November 8.
Marty Elkins, author of Leave Us in Peace, will speak at 4 p.m. in the library reading room. A local teacher, Elkins said that it was his students’ interest in the history of the Second World War that inspired his book. The book follows the lives of eight youths from countries involved in the Second World War including one young man from Owen Sound. Elkins wanted his students to understand what life was like for those living during the war. Leave Us in Peace is dedicated to Harry Kozuch, a Holocaust survivor now living in Owen Sound.
Diana Bishop, author of Living Up to A Legend: My Adventures with Billy Bishop’s Ghost, will speak at 6:30 p.m. in the library reading room. In her book, Bishop reflects on her famous grandfather, the World War One flying ace Billy Bishop. This three-generation family memoir chronicles the legacy of Billy Bishop and how being a historic Canadian celebrity has influenced both her father’s life and her own.
Copies of the books can be purchased at the event. This is a free event however space is limited. Please register at the library in advance.
