Meaford Scarecrows Will Proudly Wear ‘Support Our Troops’ Shirts

scarecrowmilitaryredandwhite270Directors of the Meaford Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) have generously donated four bins of Support Our Troops shirts that will add an extra splash of Canadian pride during the 21st annual Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival beginning in early September.

MFRC Executive Director Cindy Lewin says the board of directors decided to donate the clothing to this year’s scarecrow invasion in recognition of the support the Canadian Armed Forces members and families receive from the community.

We are truly blessed that the Town of Meaford supports the CAF Members and their families of the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre,” she says.

Head Scarecrow Marilyn Morris is thrilled with MFRC’s donation. “Who better to be represented this year as we proudly celebrate Canada’s 150th than our Canadian military through 4th Canadian Division Meaford,” says Morris. “They are true Canadian and Meaford heroes.”

Scarecrow building workshops begin on May 24 at the Rotary Harbour Pavilion, 9 a.m. till noon, and will continue throughout May, June, and into August. “Our goal,” Morris says, “is to have 250 scarecrows built and dressed in red and white finery in time for the invasion during the first week of September, and for the big day on September 29 with a parade on Sykes Street at 6 p.m. and family festival at 6:30 p.m. at the Rotary Harbour Pavilion.”
