Province Investing $7 Million in Seniors Community Grants

MPP Paul Vickers announced last week that Ontario is investing over $80,000 in local Seniors Community Grant (SCG) projects. This is a part of the $7 million to protect seniors and older adults by supporting over 320 community projects that help them to stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected.

“Our government is proud to invest in programs that help seniors remain active and engaged in their communities,” said Paul Vickers, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound. “This funding will strengthen local opportunities for older adults to build meaningful connections, stay healthy and continue making valuable contributions across our riding.”

The funding will be distributed as follows:

  • $5,650 – Municipality of Grey Highlands – Age-Friendly Senior’s Health Fair in Markdale
  • $14,562 – Meaford Public Library – Free monthly seniors art workshops
  • $25,000 – Paisley’s Trinity Theatre – Intergenerational workshops bringing youth and seniors together
  • $19,850 – Wiarton Propeller Club – Senior’s fitness classes, cooking workshops, digital/financial literacy
  • $15,238 – Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service Corporation – Providing safety education and resources

Seniors Community Grants projects are designed to increase independence, reduce social isolation, and create positive connections.

I am delighted to make this announcement at Neighbour to Neighbour here in Hamilton. Our government shares your commitment to protect our seniors’ health and well-being and ensure they have access to inclusive and reliable community supports,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “The Seniors Community Grant Program is a critical lifeline throughout the province for seniors to learn new skills, get fit, enjoy group activities, and stay connected to their friends and neighbours.”

SCG recipients can receive up to $25,000 to support local programs, services, and events to provide seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism, and community engagement.
