Summer Company Offers Students Up to $3,000 to Operate a Summer Business

The Summer Company program returns for 2026 to offer financial and coaching support to students looking to operate their own business. The program provides students aged 15–29 with an opportunity to start and manage their own business with a grant of up to $3,000, along with business training and mentorship from local business leaders.

Applications will be accepted until May 15. Students can apply online through the Business Enterprise Centre webpage at www.grey.ca/bec under the Summer Company tab.

Often, the hardest part of getting a business going is covering the initial startup costs,” said Royden Thomson, Grey County Business Development Coordinator. “The Summer Company program helps remove that barrier while also giving students the guidance they need to run a successful business. It’s a great way to test out a business idea knowing that there is support each step of the way.”

As part of the application process, students will submit ideas, participate in a short screening phone call, and develop a business plan. Training sessions are delivered both online and in person. Anyone with questions about the business plan or application process can contact the Business Enterprise Centre at bec@grey.ca or 519-371-3232.

To be eligible, students must be returning to high school, college, or university in the fall, must not be working another full-time job during the program, and cannot have participated in Summer Company in previous years.

The Summer Company program is funded by the Province of Ontario and delivered locally by the Grey County Business Enterprise Centre. Students keep all profits earned through their business.
