Georgian Bay Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Members Compete in Toronto

Georgian Bay Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GBBJJ) sent a competition team to the ADCC Toronto Open, one of the most prestigious submission grappling events in North America. The tournament featured over 700 athletes travelling from across Canada and the United States to compete under the world-renowned Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) banner.

The event took place at Exhibition Place on February 14, and GBBJJ competitors brought home five medals.

ADCC events are known globally for their high level of competition and professional atmosphere. For a local gym from Meaford to earn five medals at an event of this scale, where athletes from major metropolitan hubs across North America compete, highlights the elite level of instruction and dedication found at Georgian Bay BJJ.

“Watching our team compete at an ADCC event is a proud moment. This isn’t just a local tournament; you have athletes flying in from all over the U.S. and Canada. For our kids’ team to hold their own and for our adults to step onto that podium, it shows that the hard work we’re putting in here in Meaford is paying off on an international stage,” said Head Coach Kyle Clements.

GBBJJ Results:

  • Youth Division (7–8 Year Olds):
    • Phoenix Major: Secured a Silver medal and a Bronze medal across two different weight classes.
    • Zean Jorge de Luna: Secured a Silver medal.
    • Weston McCoag: Delivered a strong performance against high-level opponents in a deep division.
  • Adult Division:
    • Daryl Johnson: Secured a Silver medal.
    • Dan Fevreau: Secured a Silver medal.
