Editor,
Mr. Kuitert (Letter to the Editor, February 1, 2024) seems to be unaware of the many positive benefits to the community provided by the library. He needs to factor them in when doing his calculations.
He could learn about these things if he went to the library web site or subscribed to their news letter.
And, I wonder if 100 books/day is factual (unsubstantiated) or just a guess?
And, what about music, videos, magazines, equipment, computers, free WiFi, classes, kids’ programs, meeting rooms for local groups.
And, for people who live or work downtown, is there a value for them to have a place to read the new papers while having a bag lunch?
A narrow view does the library an injustice. The library provides much more than book lending.
