The shade gazebos went up; water and lemonade were provided; hats were donned and sunscreen applied and then the Maple Meadow Homes Tournament began at the Meaford Lawn Bowling Club on Wednesday, July 5.
“That was one hot day!” said organizers.
Fourteen pairs of bowlers played three ten-end games. Participants came from Mount Forest, Beeton, Chesley and Hanover as well as Meaford. Chesley dominated with first and third place finishes and a strong Meaford team placed second.
The results were as follows: First place Katie Schuknecht and Ken Martin, Chesley, topped the tournament with three wins. Brad Tichbourne and Jill Calvert-Goetz from Meaford were second with two wins and 37 points. Eric and Sandy Weatherall, Chesley, were third with two wins and 36 points. Bill Scott and Sue Zylski, Beeton, placed fourth.
Prizes were announced by scorekeeper Wendy Calvert-Morris and presented by Bill Sadler of Maple Meadow Homes in Meaford.
“Many thanks to our sponsor, our club executive and members who worked hard to make it happen and to all the teams for providing a great competition,” said organizers.
Junior Bowling has started Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. Ages 12 to 17 are welcome. Sign up with a parent at the junior times or prior to any adult lawn bowling session.
