Editor,
I have sent the following to MP Candice Bergen,
Ms. Bergen;
I am not your constituent, but I am a life-long Federal Conservative and have voted in this way for 19 consecutive elections. I dropped my actual party membership a number of years ago, due to the direction the party was taking with leadership choices. The party will have to come up with an absolutely outstanding leader for me to ever consider voting this way again.
I find the current position that you, and too many of your caucus, have taken with respect to the ‘truckers’ to be unacceptable. The party is increasingly disassociating itself from the values of the majority of ordinary Canadians.
The protesters are operating lawlessly, under a manifesto which is anarchist.
Their proposed overthrow of government is anathema to decent Canadians.
They are bullying, intimidating, and causing financial, emotional, and physical harm to the residents of every community in which protests are taking place.
The extreme right wing hooligans in their midst are behaving in a deplorable manner, but are encouraged by relative inaction of police, and the tacit (and often explicit) support shown the protesters by far too many elected members of the CPC.
A vast majority of Canadians despise Trumpism, and deplore the shocking events of January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol, and all of the other ‘rallies’ whipped up during his deranged reign of lies, hatred, and persecution.
At one time, I admired your aggressive political stance. This stopped when you wore the MAGA hat.
Further, by paraphrasing Trump in your recent email to caucus members you have lost every shred of credibility with me, and it will not be earned back by any future weasel words.
Mike Robertson, Meaford
