Celebrating 25 Years Of Success As Race Director of the Meaford Harbour Run Walk

When he picked up the Apple Harvest Race in 1996 (it closed after it had run for 25 years) and formed the Meaford Harbour Run/Walk, Brian Renken could not have imagined that this community-oriented, family fun and competitive event would go on to raise $750,000+ for the Meaford Hospital Foundation.

I have worked with amazing committee members over the years – many for several years. Time after time they have put their heart and soul into making this event a much-loved and anticipated Meaford staple. I am so grateful and so proud to be a part of this history. It has been fun and rewarding,” said Renken.

Renken has led the committee to grow the Meaford Harbour Run Walk from a small event to a large one with over 500 participants – runners, walkers, strollers – and in the last two years, virtually – doing 5K any way you can imagine.

When you think of Brian Renken, the first thing that comes to mind is: volunteerism. From his years spent on committees and not-for-profit Boards including the Meaford Hospital and Meaford Hospital Foundation – he is an inspiration.

Brian Renken has such a high level of dedication and commitment to volunteerism in our community,” said Rob Peacock, CEO of the Meaford Hospital Foundation. “He shares his wealth of experience and many, many talents to help solidify the future for generations to come. He has always embraced a challenge and has given often and selflessly. We are truly grateful to Brian for his years of leadership and friendship.”

HRW’s 2021 event is Brian’s last at the helm – leading to a $75,000 donation to the Meaford Hospital Foundation to be used for much needed patient beds. The committee hopes to carry on Brian’s legacy as they embark on this new chapter. “It has been a pleasure and an honour to have worked with Brian through the evolution of this incredible event. The committee is grateful for his past leadership and will endeavour to advance his vision going forward,” said Dave Glass, HRW Committee Member.
