Glenda passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford surrounded by her family after a brief illness on Sunday, April 11, 2021, in her 86th year.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband William Pearson in 2012. Glenda was the cherished mother of Susan (David) Richardson, Bill (Jennifer) Pearson, and Laurie (Brian) Laporte. She was the much loved grandmother of Kelly (Mark) Woodhouse, Will (Jenn) Laporte, and Carson (Kerri) Laporte, and the dear great-grandmother of Sawyer, Marly, and Nixon Woodhouse, and Adalyn and Maverick Laporte. Glenda was the much loved sister of Carol (Bob) Wells, Chris (Wilf) Ferrell, Keith (Lorie) Ayres, and sister-in-law of Tessie (late James) Ayres. She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Reba Ayres and by her sisters Gwen (late Everett) Rose, Patricia (late Wilton) Dawdy, and brother James Ayres. Glenda will be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Glenda was happiest being mom and homemaker to her family. She was very proud of her family and was happy as she saw it grow to include all the people it does today. For many years she made weekly ‘family night dinners’ so she and Bill could keep in touch with all the things their children were doing.
She enjoyed helping Bill with his Ministry of Natural Resources career, and supported him throughout his political career. Her hands were never idle as she sewed, crocheted, and knit many items which her family have throughout their homes. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, babysat them often, and was well known with all the children for “cheating her way through card games”. As her nest emptied, she worked at a local variety store and then at Stedman’s Department store for many years. Glenda and Bill travelled in their retirement years and spent many summers at their seasonal home in Sauble Beach.
Glenda was a long time member of the Meaford Hospital Auxiliary, and a dedicated member of Christ Church Anglican, including the church choir for many years. Glenda also enjoyed her reading volunteer work at the Meaford Community School, line dancing with Joan McDermid’s group, and in later years participating in Sharon Challis’s exercise programs. Glenda and Bill were loyal Owen Sound Attack season ticket holders, and Glenda continued to attend the games with her family after Bill’s passing until it became easier to watch from home. She also was an active member of the Meaford 55 Club for many years. For the past couple of years, Glenda chose to make Central Place Retirement Residence her home and loved every minute there. What started as a ‘spa vacation’ for one month turned into full time residency and she loved the staff and her new/rekindled friendships as well. It was always hard to find her in her room as she loved to partake in every activity and outing she could. She often said she would never have made it through this COVID thing if she was not in a place where there was company whenever you wanted it. Her family would like to thank Central Place for making their mom feel like an important member of their retirement family.
Glenda’s family would like to express their sincerest appreciation and thanks to Dr. Issa Benissa to whom Glenda had the utmost faith, and to all the staff at the Meaford Hospital for the outstanding professional and compassionate care she received once again. They will be forever grateful for being allowed to spend time with Glenda during the COVID pandemic and could not have asked for anything more. A private family service will be conducted at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
