Registration Now Open For Annual Meaford Harbour 5K

Staff

This year the Meaford Harbour 5K Run/Walk is celebrating its 24th Annual Run/Walk on Saturday, July 11, and all proceeds raised from the event will support improvements for Mental Health care and facilities at our local hospitals.

Over the past 23 years, the race has raised $511,500 for medical equipment, and participation has steadily grown with well over 500 participants each year.

For those who are competitive runners or walkers the race is chip timed which always draws a large group of competitive participants. However, the race is also a chance for those just wishing to enjoy the pleasure of strolling along the lovely shores of Georgian Bay with their pets while raising funds for the Meaford Hospital Foundation. This is the eighth year for the free Children’s 1K Fun Run, which is always exciting and fun for kids 12 and under.

Gather your family, friends, and your team of colleagues and join us for another great day! The kids 1K race starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9 a.m. at the Meaford Harbour pavilion. To register online go to www.mhfoundation.ca or drop into the Foundation office to fill out a registration form.

Register online by June 5 to save $5 on the Entry Fee, plus each entry goes into a draw to win a $200 gift certificate to Runner’s Den in Owen Sound, which is sponsored by Runners Den and Brian Renken Professional Corp. Registration prices will increase on June 6. Participants are also able to pledge to raise $100 in fundraising to waive their fee.

Advance registration and race day kit pick up takes place the evening before the race at the Harbour Pavilion from 4-7 p.m., followed by early morning on the day of the race between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m.

Prizes will be given to the top female and male runner, top female and male walker, along with several pledge-based prizes.

The race does have some route changes this year to accommodate the bridge on Bridge Street being under construction. The race will start and finish on St. Vincent Street at the harbour, including the Kids 1K race. The route will take our participants along Aiken Street, through Memorial Park, back out to the water along Lakeside and Eliza and return down St. Vincent Street to the finish line at the harbour. Maps are available when you register along with Pledge forms for those wishing to raise offline pledges.

There will be access to the harbour via Denmark St. on the morning of the race to access the registration site and for parking. Register at www.mhfoundation.ca today!
